Wrongly shown on O.S. map as Cansdale Cottage, Station Road. House. Late
medieval, altered in C18 and C20. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with
handmade red clay tiles. 4 bays facing SW, with C18 chimney stack at left end
and early C17 axial stack near right end, forming a lobby-entrance. Short C18
extension at right. Wing to front of left end, 1982. Lean-to extension at
rear. 2 storeys. 4-window range of C20 sashes, and one more on first floor of
front wing. Door at front of C20 gabled porch. The interior has jowled posts,
exposed heavy studding; cranked braces to 2 tiebeams at left. The joists in
front of the main stack are of horizontal section, chamfered with step stops,
arranged longitudinally; other joists much repaired and renewed. Unglazed
window in upper rear wall, with 3 diamond mullions. Main hearth has original
0.33 metre brickwork at sides, renewed at back, mantel renewed. Crownpost roof,
incomplete.
