1/37 corbett Theatre, E15
Acting School

GV II

Aisled barn, C15, rebuilt as a theatre. Timber-framed, with walls of red brick
and flint rubble, roofed with slate. 5 bays aligned approx. NW-SE. Jowled
posts, straight tiebeams, arched braces to arcade plates and tiebeams. No aisle
shores. Edge-halved and bridled scarfs in both arcade plates; SE end of SW
arcade plate repaired with old timber. Arcade posts mounted on plinths of red
brick with concrete coping. Queen strut roof, hipped at SE end, half-hipped
at NW end over short extension. Single storey foyer and bar to SW, C20. The
timber frame was removed from its original site at Ditchling, Sussex, c.1967
and re-erected on its present site with new walls and foyer/bar extension.
