8/187 Farm Building at Accott
II
Farm building, original use unknown but reputed to have been used as chapel.
Possibly C15. Stone rubble with corrugated asbestos roof with gable ends.
Rectangular on plan, originally lofted over but now with raised concrete floor
inserted at waist-height forming single storey. Opening to front left side with
timber lintel and stone rubble buttress to left. C19 lean-to partially demolished
to right. Late medieval opposing rear doorway has timber surround with slightly
shouldered head, which appears to be inserted in a former larger opening. Large
blocked up loft opening at right gable end with slightly cambered stone arch. Roof
structure largely intact with 5 raised cruck trusses, 4 with short jointed feet,
but short curved feet to central truss are integral with the blades. 2 tiers of
threaded purlins and threaded ridge purlin. Straight collars tenoned into soffit
mortices to the blades, 3 pairs of which have short strengthening pieces to the
ridge. From left gable end, truss I has jointed foot missing to front and Truss II
has foot missing to rear. The building formerly adjoined the west gable end of
Accott Manor which was demolished in c.1960's.
