House and cottage. "HS 1648" (Henry Shaw) on door lintel the
cottage being added in late C17 or early C18. Squared rubble
with graduated stone slate roof and brick stack. 2-unit
former baffle-entry plan with two storeys and the 1-bay
cottage added to right. Projecting plinth. Door to right
with basket-headed lintel and chamfered surround. The front
is otherwise blind but for a C20 window. The rear has a 2-
light (fire-window) 4-light and 3-light window (each with one
or two mullions removed) on the ground floor and two 3-light
windows on the first floor. All windows are double-chamfered
with cavetto-moulded mullions. Flat-faced and double-
chamfered mullion windows to gable one of which has been
turned into a door. Ridge chimney stack. The cottage has
double-chamfered mullion windows to front and rear, the
front partly obscured by a later lean-to; the rear with a
mullion removed. INTERIOR: beam pattern gives evidence of
former inglenook fireplace. Tie-beam roof truss of massive
proportions.
