Farmhouse. Mid-late C19 with a C19 extension. White-washed local stone and flint
rubble; stone rubble stacks topped with C19 and C20 brick; corrugated iron roof,
formerly thatch.
Plan: 4-room lobby entry plan house built down a gentle hillslope and facing east.
Downhill at the right (north) end is a small unheated room which is now used as a
kitchen but was probably a dairy/butter originally. The centre 2 rooms have an
axial stack between them and lobby entrance in front of the stack. The right of
these rooms was probably the original kitchen the left one the parlour. The left
(south) end room has a rear lateral stack which might be secondary. 2 storeys with
secondary 2-storey outshot on the left end and single storey C20 extension to rear
of the right end.
Exterior: irregular 4-window front includes some original oak-framed windows with
chamfered mullions, the others are C19 casements with glazing bars. The main front
doorway is right of centre and there is a secondary doorway towards the left end;
both contain C20 plank doors. The roof is hipped each end.
Interior is largely the result of C19 and C20 modernisations and although little
carpentry detail is exposed the original layout remains. The parlour has a
chamfered and step-stopped axial beam and the chamfered and step-stopped axial beam
and the chamfered oak lintel of the kitchen fireplace shows. Roof not inspected.
