Farmhouse and adjoining former barn (now dwelling accommodation). Circa late C17
house remodelled in the C18; probably late C18 barn incorporating late medieval
(probably C 16) features from former house at Merther-Uny or Merther-Uny Chapel (qv).
Granite rubble, granite ashlar and granite dressings. Fairly steep asbestos slate
roofs. Dressed granite stacks over the gable ends of the house. Cast-iron ogee
gutters.
Plan: Double depth plan house with service rooms in later rear outshut plus
rectangular shallower depth former barn set back slightly at the front. House was
originally 2 rooms with wider probably hall/kitchen on the right and another hall on
the left with cross passage or through passage between the rooms. Lower parts of
walls, particularly at right-hand end, are older.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Overall 5 window south front. Former barn on the left and
house on the right each have nearly symmetrical fronts. Former barn has doorway
central to fenestration and loading/winnowing doorway over (now glazed). Both are
chamfered 4-centred arched doorways with blind tympana. 2-light chamfered mullioned
windows have pointed arched lights with blind tympana and recessed triangular central
spandrels. There are pigeon holes at first floor impost level (round oculus in left-
hand gable). House has 3 window front with doorway and window over slightly left of
middle. C20 porch. C20 doors and windows in C18 openings. First floor walls of
front are granite ashlar (compare Ninnis Farmhouse, qv, nearby).
Interior: House has large fireplace in each room; right-hand fireplace is partly
blocked; both has chamfered and stopped oak lintels. Roof structure said to have old
hardwood trusses.
