House. Early - mid C19, some mid - late C19 alterations. Plastered brick and local
stone rubble; brick stacks with C19 brick chimneyshafts; slate roof.
Plan: double depth plan house facing south-west with a front and back room heated
by an end stack either side of a central entrance hall and rear staircase. House is
2 storeys. Since the left (north-west) end is terraced into the hillslope it maybe
that it was originally 2 storeys with a basement like the adjoining contemporary
house, Court Barton (q.v). If so it was altered in the mid - late C19.
Exterior: symmetrical 3-window front wholly C19 features, although maybe 2 phases.
The outer bays have 16-pane sashes, those on the ground floor are not as tall as the
others. The second floor central window is a narrow 12-pane sash, the window below
is a 16-pane sash (is this blocking the original doorway?) and below that one is the
central doorway which contains a mid - late C19 part-glazed 6-panel door with a
contemporary flat hood on shaped timber brackets. Plain eaves although there is a
C19 cast iron guttter with lions head mask joints. The roof is gable-ended to right
and to left it runs continuously over adjoining Court Barton (q.v).
Interior: was not inspected but C19 joinery and other detail is suspected.
Feniton is an attractive little village containing a good group of listed buildings.
