House. Circa 1750 with later alterations. Rubble, rendered side to right, slate-
hung front, slate roof with brick gable end stacks. Double depth plan with central
entrance passage between 2 front rooms, service room to rear left and stair hall to
rear right.
2 storeys and 3 windows, ground floor has flat-roofed wooden porch, with 4-pane sash
right and left; first floor has 4-pane sash to left and two 12-pane sashes to right,
modillion cornice.
6-panelled and fielded front door inside the porch.
Interior: Passage has fielded panelling to left with 6-panelled door, dado panelling
to right. Front left room has fireplace with eared architrave, dentils to moulded
mantel, cupboard to left with shaped shelves, segmental head with key and pilasters
with fretwork carving to head. Fine 3-tier cornice including dentillation. Front
right room has panelled cupboards to right of C20 fireplace. 2-panelled door to end
of passage. To rear right, dog-leg stair with turned and knopped balusters (removed
on lower flight). At first floor, 2-panelled doors. Room to front right has
fireplace with eared architrave, torus moulding and dentils to moulded mantel;
panelled shutters and soffits to windows. This fireplace is similar to that at
Lyndale Cottage, Fore Street, Kingsand (q.v.). To left, front and rear rooms now
one; front room has fireplace with eared architrave and fretwork to dentilled mantel,
cupboards with 2-panelled doors and fretwork Greek key pattern to cornice. Rear room
has fireplace with eared architrave with moulded mantel. Landing at first floor has
moulded plaster cornice. This is a fine interior, retaining most of the original
features with little alteration. The details of the fireplaces are typical of
Cawsand.
