3 cottages, converted into one house. Circa C17 origins, extended in later C17 or
early C18 and mid C19. Converted into one house in mid C20. Rendered and painted
stone rubble and cob. Rag slate roof with gable ends. Stone rubble axial and end
stacks with cloam oven projection to left hand end stack.
Plan: Probably originally a 2-room and cross passage plan house, the left hand room
heated by an end stack and the smaller right hand room unheated. In circa late C17
or early C18 the house was extended on the lower right end by the addition of a
second house of similar plan; the larger left hand room heated by an axial stack
backing onto the end of the earlier house. In the circa mid C19 the range was
extended with a third house of 1-room plan on the higher left hand end.
Exterior: 2-storeys. Asymmetrical 1:2:2 window front with the ground sloping down
to the right. The casements windows have been partly replaced in the C20. Central
house has C20 plank door in gabled stone rubble porch to right of centre with 3-
light casement to left and 2-light casement to right. Two 2-light casements on
first floor. The house to right is set slightly forward and has a 3-light casement
to left. 2-light casement in earlier entrance and 2-light casement to right. Two
2-light casements on first floor. The house to left has a C20 plank door with C20
2-light casement on ground and first floor.
Interior: Central cottage has bowtell moulded floor joists and a roughly chamfered
timber lintel to the fireplace, the runout stops not quite aligned and with the
granite jambs. The left hand cottage has unchamfered wany floor joists, the ground
floor partitions have been removed and the fireplace lintel is roughly cut but has a
slight chamfer and cloam oven. C19 floor joists to left hand cottage.
