Former private residence, it became a private school and is now a Golf
Club House, early C19 with alterations. Rendered and whitened red
brick formerly with slate roof but large section, hidden behind
parapet, now flat. 2 storeys 6 bay entrance front to north, 7 bay
return to east with 2 storey 3 window segmental projection and 7 bay
garden front to south with single storey 3 window segmental
projection. Giant pilasters to quoins, channel rustication up to
moulded string course at first floor level, moulded eaves cornice
surmounted by parapet wall. Entrance to building via a roofless
loggia of four piers with ovolo moulded corners. Recessed sash
windows without glazing bars.
Interior: In the entrance hall two Ionic columns supports the landing
and a geometrical staircase with shaped balusters which divides from
the central flight and follows both side walls upwards. Three ground
floor rooms have high quality ceilings with cornices and the south
room has corinthian pilasters. The Billiard Rooms, at First Floor
level, has an elaborate lantern with modillion cornice and some dado
panelling. There are four panel doors with wide architraves and some
good mantels.
