Little Town
3/6 Well in garden of
No. 119.
II
Yellow sandstone slab cover with rope winding gear, probably early
C19, covering a well C18 or earlier, now in the garden of a modern
house, but this area was formerly part of the grounds of the C19 farm
cottage adjoining. Two vertical side cheeks and an inclined rear
slab, secured by wrought iron cramps and supporting a flat cover slab.
The side cheeks support a hardwood roller and cranked wrought iron
handle and sit on a thick red sandstone slab, perforated with a
rectangular opening, through which the red bricks of the old circular
well can be seen.
