- of Higher Trengale
Farmhouse
II
House; probably originally the farmhouse at Higher Trengale, now only one room
surviving. Mid C17 with later alterations. Slatestone rubble with granite quoins;
partly slate-hung. Slurried slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends; gable end
stack to left with brick shaft.
Plan: One room plan surviving of larger house, with entrance to the front, probably
inserted in the mid C19; the room is heated by the gable end stack to left. The
house would formerly have extended further to the right; the surviving room may have
been a kitchen. There is an integral outshut to the rear, and a later outshut,
possibly of the C18, attached to the left side.
Exterior: 2 storeys, asymmetrical 2-window range. Ground floor has recessed doorway
with C20 4-centred arched door with sidelights. Wall slate-hung above the doorway.
To right, a 6-pane light with timber lintel and a small single light. First floor
has 2-light 6-pane casement with L hinges and timber lintel, to right a narrow single
light with timber lintel. Right side blind and without quoins. Left side has
outshut of one storey and loft, with unglazed window with plain granite lintel to
front; this conceals the external stack with an oven at the base. The integral
outshut to rear has 4-panelled door at the left side with 3-pane casement above.
Interior: Not accessible.
