10/104 Great Treverbyn Farmhouse
- II
Farmhouse. Late C17; re-orientated and extended in 1870 (dated JC 18?0) with few
later alterations. Slatestone and granite rubble. Slate roof with ridge tiles and
gable ends, gable end stacks to the C19 range. Slurried slate roof with gable ends
to the early range.
Plan: 2-room plan survives, possibly of a formerly larger house; 1 room to right
heated by a gable end stack, unheated dairy to left; stair tower to rear of the room
to right. In 1870, the new range was added to the right, at right angles, forming a
new front; this is of 2-room plan, with central entrance and room to right and left,
each heated by gable end stack. Later dairy/scullery wing added to rear right,
forming narrow rear courtyard.
Exterior: 2 storeys on plinth, symmetrical 3-window front, all 3-light casements
except first floor central 2-light casement. Slate sills to windows and slate string
course. Central door with overlight and slate hood. Datestone at first floor.
Right side has a single storey rubble lean-to and first floor C19 mullion and transom
window. Left side has external stack and 4-pane casement at ground floor, first
floor 2-light casement to left. To left is the C17 range, of 2 storeys; there is a
2-light casement at ground floor and 3-light casement at first floor, with 2-light
casement to the dairy to left. The gable end of the dairy has 2-light casement,
slate ventilators above. Rear of the range has 2-storey gabled stair tower with 2-
light casement at first floor, slate-hung. C19 single storey addition at the base of
the stair tower with hipped roof and door. Rear of C19 range has lean-to corridor
with 16-pane sash, leading to the single storey dairy/scullery, which has two 16-pane
sashes in the gable end with slate ventilators above. Two 16-pane sashes to the
outer side.
Interior: The room to right in the early range has slate floor, fireplace with flat
granite lintel which is chamfered with run-out stops, oven with cast iron door to
rear right. Rear stair tower has winder stair. The unheated dairy has a well with
drain. Slate floors in C19 range.
