Description

ST 89 SE TETBURY UPTON DOUGHTON

5/341 Barley Court
(formerly listed as Street
6.9.54 Farmhouse)

II

Former farmhouse, now private house. Early C17, possibly built in
2 stages. Rubble stone with Cotswold stone-slate roof, one rubble
ridge stack to right, one rendered ridge stack in centre, both with
moulded cap. 2 storeys and attic. Long range with 3 cross gables
and central porch supported on 2 wooden chamfered pillars with
moulded wooden cornice and room over with 3-light leaded iron
casement and hipped roof. Original very wide oak boarded door
with 2 long strap hinges and chamfered and stopped timber jambs and
lintel. To right of porch, 3 windows, 2-light stone mullion
casements with continuous dripmould, with C20 insertion in far
right window. Ground floor similar. Attic gables to right and
centre have one similar window each. To left of porch, 2 and 3-
light C20 metal casements with wood or metal mullions, under wood
or concrete lintels. Attic gable has 2-light renewed stone
mullion window. Rear facade windows match those to front and
left-hand end may have been added soon after construction of other
2 gables, when centre ridge stack would have been an end stack.
Interior not inspected but original beams and oak panelling remain.
Small additional wing to left of single storey has circular
structure with conical roof, possibly a bread oven, projecting to
front.
