1/38 The Old Rectory
II
Former rectory, now house. C17, late C18, C19 and C20. Coursed
squared and dressed limestone and ashlar, rendered brick and stone
stacks. 'U'-shaped plan with C17 main body forming left-hand wing.
Late C18 entrance front (described as 'lately built' in 1781). C19
gabled wing right. Single storey, flat-roofed infill between wings
at rear, not of special interest. Main body; 2 storeys and attic
lit by C20 two-light segmental-headed roof dormers with glazing
bars. 3:3:1-windowed facade, 3-windowed late C18 entrance projects
forwards slightly from facade off-centre right with Roman Doric
portico, 12-pane sashes either side and to first floor. C17 stone-
mullioned cross-windows left of entrance, string between ground and
first floor windows. Left-hand wall lit by 12-pane sashes set in
stone surrounds of former cross-mullioned windows. C20 door with
glazing bars at centre. Massive diagonal buttresses supporting
gable end of C17 main body where land falls away steeply at rear.
