Large detached house. Late C18/early C19, with later C19 wings.
Coursed and dressed stone with alternating flush quoins, hipped
stone slate roof, scattered stone stacks. Side wings and one rear
wing with slate roof. Single main front range to south with single
storey flanking wings of mid C19, and cross wings to each side
forming a U-shape. Mostly 3 storeys. South front of 3 windows,
16-pane sashes in flush stone surrounds. Shallow 8-pane sashes to
second floor. Ground floor has long 12-pane sashes flanking
central stone porch with attached fluted Doric columns on bases,
fluted frieze and moulded triangular pediment, door of 6 fielded
panels with decorative beading to upper and lower pairs of panels,
and decorative rectangular fanlight. Side wings each have parapet
and stone end stack , and one large triple sash of 4/12/4 panes to
south with cambered head and decorative pelmet. Returns have
scattered fenestration, mostly 12-pane sashes or paired casements.
Two-storey wing with shallow hipped slate roof on right-hand return
and in coursed rubble wall behind are 2 arched openings, apparently
bee-boles, above and flanking an arched well hole.
Internal wooden shutters remain in many rooms. Large room in
south-east wing has fine panelling. Stick baluster stair with
wreathed and ramped handrail in centre to rear of main range.
Remainder of interior inaccessible but likely to be of interest.
