Farmhouse. C.1800. Attributable to Samuel Wyatt, architect, for the Holkham
Estate. Stucco rendered gault brick, black glazed pantiled roofs. 2 storeys,
5 windows, centrepiece of symmetrical model farm layout. South front refaced
late C19 has advanced 3 bay centre, recessed single bay wings, returned as
3 bay houses to east and west designed for separate occupation. Centre has
2 ground and 2 first floor tripartite windows, 3 sashes of same width, all
late C19 plate glass. Central first floor window has 2 leaf French doors with
single light margins. All first floor windows have blind boxes. Central richly
detailed late C19 doorcase has half columns with capitals, margin lights and
rectangular over-door, 6 panel raised and fielded door. Console brackets
support canopy with Greek detail cast iron balcony, late C19. Outer single
ground and first floor plate glass sashes. Dentil eaves cornice. Low pitched
hipped roof with 2 gault brick stacks. 3 bay east and west returns have central
arched headed fan-light doors. Flanking symmetrical screen walls, to east
with hipped 2 storey tower, formerly end bay of demolished wing to north,
with swept wall with pier and roundel at east. To west screen ends in balancing
2 storey tower forming end bay of extant stable range (q.v.). See also
