west stable range.

Stable range to west of Compton Hall Farmhouse. C.1800. Attributable to Samuel
Wyatt, for the Holkham Estate. Rubble flint with gault brick dressings, red
pantiled roofs. Single storey multi-bay stable range with 2 storey granary
or storage towers at north and south. Tower at north has segmental brick arched
cart entrance with arched lunette glazing bar window above. Gault brick dressed
openings, flat rusticated quoins, corbel coursed eaves with details. Hipped
roof. Multi-bay system of stables confused by later insertions, originally
as surviving in 3-end bays at north with central arched headed door with brick
rusticated frame flanked by arched lunette brick dressed windows, either
blocked and plastered or glazed. Corbel coursed eaves cornice with dentils.
Hipped block at south converted as cottage, south return forming end bay of
west screen wall of Compton Hall Farmhouse (q.v.). Originally symmetrically
balanced with range on axis to east, now demolished.
