GV II
House and shop. Late C18 or early C19. Joint-lined rendered stone rubble and slight
timber framing with brick infill. Slate roof with gable ends.
Plan: extensively altered in C20, but appears originally to have consisted of a
front parlour with room at rear which has staircase in rear left-hand corner, and was
heated by fireplace to rear wall, both to left of former entrance passage, with two
smaller rooms to right, the front room used as shop. Kitchen in 2 storey outshot to
rear of left-hand room. The shop now occupies the entire front range, all the
internal partitions having been removed. Access to new courtyard is by rear part of
passage, absorbed from Homeleigh House (q.v.), adjoining to left.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Single twin 16 paned sashes to each of the upper storeys.
Ground floor has C20 window to left of doorway with panelled reveals, bracketted hood
and chanelled pilaster: 2 panelled base to door, the upper half glazed. Shop window
to right has late C19 pilastered surround. C20 3 light window with narrow timber
fascia extending to left across the entire facade. Kitchen outshot has slightly
bowed sash window to rear left-hand corner.
Interior: largely remodelled in C20, former parlour has plain moulded plaster
cornice. C19 staircase with handrail swept up to turned newels, the balusters
replaced in C20. C19 king post roof.
