Bridge. Late C18 - early C19. Herringbone-tooled stone. Single span.
Semicircular arch of voussoirs. Raised parapet band with plain parapet and
cambered coping. Parapet swept out at each end, terminating in square,
flat-topped piers with imposts. Recessed stone panel in the parapet reads:
1863
Jackson Bridge
From respect to the memory of
John Jackson RA
Born opposite
An honour to his Birthplace
And profession. A Pattern of
Virtue and an Example of
Success to the Persevering.
Nil Arduum Mortalibus Deo Juvante.
John Jackson was born in Lastingham, the son of a tailor, in 1778, and died
in 1831.
