4/92 No. 2, Scott's Cottage
- II
House. Circa 1600. Timber framed, plastered, roof thatched. 4 bays facing NE,
with axial chimney stack. C19 and C20 lean-to extensions at left end, roofed
with red clay pantiles and corrugated plastic. Weatherboarded shed with lean-to
roof of red clay pantiles at right end. One storey with attics. One Cl9
horizontally sliding sash of 12 lights, 2 C20 casements, C20 lean-to porch with
side entrance. The interior has chamfered beams with lamb's tongue stops and
plain joists of horizontal section. The right bay has the joists arranged
longitudinally, supported on pegged clamps. The chimney stack was built in the
C18, and probably replaces a timber-framed chimney in the same position.
Originally the house was of one storey; the floors were inserted in the first
half of the C17. Roof of clasped purlin construction, with straight wind-
bracing.
