House. Mainly late C16, with major restoration c.1930. Timber framed,
plastered with exposed framing, roofed with handmade red clay tiles. Main range
of 3 bays facing SW, with 2-bay crosswing at right. External chimney stacks on
both return walls. Rear extension at right end, c.1952, rear extension at left
end, c.1960, forming a half-H plan. 2 storeys and attics. 3-window range of
C20 casements, and 4 smaller windows with ovolo mullions and mouldings, late C16
with c.1930 restoration, C20 porch. Jetty at right, with exposed joists
replaced c.1930. 2 projecting feature gables with billet moulding. C20 brick
infill on lower storey. Grouped diagonal shafts, rebuilt in C20. The interior
has jowled posts, curved bracing trenched inside heavy studding, chamfered beams
and joists with lamb's tongue stops, clasped purlin roof. Many introduced
features, including panelling and heraldic glass. Moated site. RCHM 3.
