House. C16, extended in C17 and C19. Timber framed with some exposed framing,
roofed with handmade red clay tiles. H-plan facing E, consisting of two 2-bay
crosswings surviving from a hall house, and rebuilt main range of 2 bays, a
separate construction, all C16. External stack on left side of left crosswing,
axial stack in right bay of main range. Stair tower, c.1600, to rear of main
range and left crosswing, with C19 single-storey lean-to extension to left. C16
extension to rear of right crosswing, C17/18 extension with hipped roof to right
of it, C19. Single-storey lean-to extension between it and stair tower. 2
storeys. The E (garden) front has exposed framing. 4-window range of C20
casements, and 2 blocked windows of 3 lights, each with 3 ovolo mullions and
ovolo mouldings, c.1600. 6-panel door with top panels glazed in early C19
simple reeded architrave. Both crosswings jettied to the front, with exposed
joists and 3 plain brackets. Original plain bargeboards on right gable.
Original sprockets. The interior has jowled posts, chamfered beams, exposed
plain joists of horizontal section in right crosswing, crownpost roofs over
right crosswing and its rear extension. The stair tower has turned balusters,
original or early. RCHM 13.
