Farmhouse and private house. Late C17 with alterations dated and inscribed over
side window J & AS 1777 (John & Ann Scott). Cement render over mixed rubble on
chamfered plinth. Graduated greenslate roof with cement coping and C19
yellow-brick chimney stacks. 2 storeys, 2 bays with single-bay stable to left
under common roof and lower barn to extreme left. Sash windows in C18 surrounds
to left; flat stone-mullioned window to right and original chamfered-surround
window above with stone mullion removed. Stable has stone porch with side plank
door. Small window to right and slit vents below eaves. Rear of house has
plank door in painted stone surround. 2-light stone-mullioned stair window.
Chamfered-surround fire windows to right on both floors and enlarged
chamfered-surround windows to left. Stable has entrance and loft above. Barn
to right has larger plank door. Home of John Peel, the famous huntsman, from
the age of 3 weeks in 1777, until his marriage in 1797. See Hugh Machell, John
