House, now golf club. 1835, with C20 alterations and additions. Probably stone
rubble, stuccoed. Roof behind parapet.
Plan: Circular 3-storey tower, with single storey wing to right, which may originally
have been the chapel. There is a block set back to left, with a stair turret set in
the angle to right.
Exterior: The tower has an embattled parapet, 3-storey, with integral stair turret;
3-light window at each storey, with round porch with panelled door to front. The
single storey wing to right has two cusped lancets and C20 window to left. The block
to left is 2-storey, with embattled parapet; 2 single windows at ground floor and one
at first floor, with hood moulds; the left side has door and window at ground floor
and 3 windows at first floor. Later C19 wing to rear left with hipped roof, of 2
storeys, with 2 windows at ground and first floor, all with hood moulds and C20
glazing. The rear has C20 additions. There is an oval-shaped stack to the right
side of the tower, and a rectangular stack to rear of the block to left.
Interior: Retains a newel stair leading from ground floor to basement inside the
central tower, with cast iron balustrade.
The tower was formerly the Molesworth family house; they were one of the leading
Roman Catholic families of Cornwall.
