Barn, C16, converted for use as a Youth Hostel and subsequently as a house.
Timber-framed, plastered, roof thatched. 5 bays aligned W-E with midstrey to
N and lean-to extensions in both angles. Bay 2 from W remains open to tiebeam
level, other bays converted to 2 storeys, ceiled throughout above tiebeams.
C20 chimney stack between bays 2 and 3. 4 C20 casement windows on ground floor,
2 on upper floor. Roof half-hipped at both ends. Most of timber frame exposed
internally. Jowled wallposts, arched braces to cambered tiebeams,inclined
queen posts. Originally the barn of Tarvatts House, 30 metres to the WNW, with
large pond between. -
