Description

TL 60 17 HIGH RODING THE STREET

4/16 Inglenook

GV II

Cottage, C18, with C20 extension. Timber-framed, plastered, roof thatched.
3 bays, aligned NE-SW, with original brick chimney stack at SW end of middle
bay and original stair between middle and NE rooms. Second stair in S corner.
Single-storey rear extension, C20. Single storey with attics. Two C20
casement windows and plain door, 2 C20 casement windows in thatch. Roof half-
hipped at SW end, gabled at NE end. Framing exposed internally, posts without
jowls, straight tiebeams, primary straight bracing in walls. The stub tiebeams
between the middle and NE bays are properly jointed into a strong door-frame,
indicating that this has always been the access to the upper middle room.
The S stair may be original too, for there is no other access to the upper SW
room. The original door is reported to have been immediately SW of the foot
of the main stair, but it is now blocked, and the present door is in the SW
bay. An unusually intact example of its type.
