Cottage, early C18, extended in C19 and C20. Timber-framed, plastered, roof
thatched. Originally of 2 bays with chimney stack at SW end, newel stair in
front of stack, extension for workshop, storage or similar use SW of stack.
Lean-to extension at rear, C19. Extension to rear of SW end, c.1972. Single
storey with attics. Ground floor, 3 C20 casement windows and plain door with
early C19 hood. 3 C20 casement windows cut into thatch. Cottage had gambrel
roof originally. SW extension originally of 1 storey with clasped purlin
roof, later converted to gambrel. Continuous slope of thatch disguises roof
shape. Floor inserted in workshop extension c.1972. Partition between ground
floor rooms of original cottage removed. Some framing exposed internally,
primary straight bracing with some re-used timber. Described in Statutory
List of 23 February 1967 as 'Cottage SW of Salem Cottage'.
