1850. Gate Lodge to Thornton Lodge. White coursed smooth-rendered walls.
Steep cruciform roofs with shaped purple slating; ridge tiles; ornate timber
finials; highly ornate carved open-work barge boards. Central chimney with
deeply moulded plinth and cap and octagonal flues. Porch in shaped open-work
painted timber with date '1850' added. Replacement door. Yellow sandstone
mullioned windows with ogee lights in west and east gables and symmetrical
to each side of south porch. Tracery forming quatrefoiled diamonds in north
gable window. Extension to east, partly modern. A fine early Victoria loge
ornee.
