Former Industrial School and mistress's house, now Parish Hall and house.
Built by daughters of S.C. Whitbread, for purpose of training girls for
domestic service. Opened 1862 (Beds. Mercury 10.2,1862). Mottled red brick
with dressings partly of yellow brick partly ashlar. Slate roofs. House is 2
storey and attics asymmetrical block. Single-storeyed schoolroom block
projects to W. Schoolroom: 2 2-light casements with diamond leading to L. 5-
bay verandah on wood supports to R, LH bay being enclosed wood porch, french
windows to porch and all 4 other bays. All openings have 4-centred arched
heads containing 2 pointed arches with diamond leading. House: LH recessed
bay has doorway with bracketed gabled wood hood with finial, and single light
casement above. Projecting gable has canted bay to ground floor, 2-light
casement with hood mould with decorative stops to first floor, and small
almond-shaped window to attic. RH recessed block has one single-light
casement per floor, and lean-to block within angle with similar casement. All
openings with more angular 4-centred arched heads than schoolroom. Paired and
multiple chimney stacks, all set diagonally with moulded cornices.
