the description shall be amended to read:
Farmhouse, now private house. Circa late C16 or early C17. Partly rebuilt in C18
and extended to rear inCl9 and C20. Rubblestone with asbestos slate roof with gable
ends to central range, hipped end to adjoining store continuing on left-hand,gable
end. Higher roof continuing range on right-hand gable end with gable end on left,
hipped end on right and roof continued down over ground floor to front south east
elevation. 2 projecting wings to rear with gabled ends. Large stone stack near
junction with hipped end on right and projecting rear wing and large stone stack
with brick shaft on left-hand gable of right-hand range. Stone stack on left-hand
gable of central range. Plan much altered. Originally probably 3 rooms with
through passage. Through passage remains, blocked to rear by C19 extension. Range
to right circa late C16 or early C17. Hall retained with fireplace backing onto
through passage. Range on left of through passage rebuilt circa C18. Plan modified
circa C18 with extension to rear with addition of probable rear kitchen and dairy to
form double depth plan. South east front. 2 storeys on left lower end with C20 2-
light casement without glazing bars, beneath brick segmental arch to left. Wide
early C20 partly glazed door to right with flanking rubble walls of C19 porch. Porch
roof removed. Above, two C20 2-light casements without glazing bars. Continued to
right, set slightly forward beneath sloping roof, single storey range with_loft
above. C20 3-light casement without glazing bars. Cloam oven projection to south
east of rear projecting wing on north. To rear double gable end on left. Gable to
right originally outshut: heightened circa 1970s and absbestos slate hung.
Interior: room on right with C17 chamfered ceiling beams with run out stops.
Chamfered granite lintel and jambs to C17 fireplace. Cloam oven. Small timber
framing with rubble infil to rear of room in C18 range. Ceiling beams renewed.
Fireplace in rear wing on north with granite lintel and cloam oven. Ceiling beams
renewed. Roof over C17 range with 2 heavy principals remaining, chamfered with
notches cutout of uncertain purposes, dying into wall plate. Trenched purlins with
slightly cambered heavy collars. Pengelly was a tenant farm of Callington Manor,
mentioned in the Feet of Fines of 1393 and 1492 (published by Devon and Cornwall
Record Society).
