5/29 Higher New Yard

House, early C19, with late C17 or early C18 gabled cross-wing hammer-dressed
stone, stone slate roof. House of 2 storeys, has facade with near-centrally
placed doorway with monolithic jambs flanked by 2-light broad mullioned window
with same over. Stacks to gables. Cross-wing breaks forward, and has quoined
angles with 2-light slight chamfered edged mullioned window with larger C19
2-light window over. Right hand return wall has two 2-light chamfered
mullioned windows (mullions removed) and other mullioned windows much altered.
Above is arch-headed light and other later inserted windows. Rear gable also has
one arch-headed light to ground. Front gable has base for finial on apex. The
house is prominently sited on a good hill-site to the south-west of Stainland
village.
