Store House

Stables and store house to east of Calton Hall (qv). Mid-late C19 in C17 style.
Coursed squared rubble, stone dressings, stone slate roof. Stables: 2 storeys,
2 bays. Waggon entrance to left has chamfered surround and massive lintel with
segmental-pointed head; C20 plank doors. Entrance to right in similar style but
smaller. Two 2-light double chamfered mullioned windows on upper floor. Shaped
eaves modillions. Shaped kneelers to gable coping with ball finials to ridge.
Central ridge stack. Interior: 4 stalls with feeding troughs filled from upper
floor. Store house abuts right-hand gable end wall. One storey, 2 bays. Two
entrances with chamfered surround and segmental-pointed head. Gable end ridge stack
and pitching eye in gable end wall. Stables are bisected by garden wall of Calton
Hall (qv). Included for group value.
