9/2 The Rookery

House. Late C17 with mid C18 alterations. Slobbered rubble, painted stone
dressings, slate roof with stone slates at rear. Two storeys, 3 bays. Central
entrance with probaby mid Cl8 Gibbs surround, imitation keystone carved on lintel and
cornice over. Two ground floor windows, both double chamfered and mullioned,
formerly 4-light, now 2-light. On upper floor two 3-light double chamfered mullioned
windows flank a similar central window, but 2-light. All windows have C20
casements. Gable end stacks. Left hand return indicates heightening of roof when
C17 windows were rearranged. Ground floor single-light window with chamfered
surround and basket-arched head. Right-hand return contains 3-light double
chamfered window with cavetto mullions and square stools. Remains of former 4-light
now 2-light, double chamfered window in rear outshut under catslide roof.
