Description

SD 9749 CARLETON BROOK VIEW

10/47 Former Barn 10m to
north east of
Trappes Hall

GV II

Barn now used as a garage and for storage, C17. Rubble with stone slates still
to part but recent butterfly roof to northern section. U-shaped on plan with
cross-wings to either side of threshing floor, each gabled though the northern
gable has been removed. Quoins. Chamfered doorways look inwards from the cross-
wings; cart entries also chamfered but that to east blocked by a wall between
the outer faces of its buttresses. Inside there is a loft in the southern cross-
wing, and three massive king-post trusses with angle struts survive although one
is now exposed to the air on the north side. In the southern gable is a datestone
reading perhaps 1634 or 1684.
