2/1 Lordsmead Mill
II
Flax, later silk mill, now house. Early C19 or late C18. Main section is
coursed and squared limestone with slate roof; small section to right is lower
with tile-covered mansard roof and with horizontal boarding in upper part of
gable. Main building is 8-bay, with 36-pane sash window on two floors; north
(entrance) front has 6-panel door inbay 5 and pair of plank doors to bay 8. To
right, smaller section has loading bay door under segmental head; the return
gable has a 2-light casement immediately below the boarding. South front also
8-bay, as north, with 36-pane sashes; C20 glazed doors bay 3 and front doors in
bay 8. Windows are all set to keyed lintels. Interior completely modified to
domestic use, and many windows replacement, but a splendid building in the best
of the functional tradition.
