cottages, north of
corner of Rushmere Lane

Handed pair of cottages, circa 1875, by John Douglas for the 1st Duke
of Westminster. Brown brick lower storey; white rendered upper storey
with floral pargetted panels below windows and at crowns of paired
dormer gables to front; red tile hipped roof with central chimney of
shaped brickwork. Each cottage is of l½ storeys and 1 window. Arched
timber-framed porch under catslide roof, left; side porch to right is
similar. Small-pane iron casements under camber-arches in the lower
storey; in timber surrounds proud of the wall-face in upper storey.
Boarded doors
With Clements Cottages, Middle Lane (q.v.) and Nos. 1 to 4 Rushmere
Lane (q.v.) this pair is an early example of the Free Style in
Cheshire.
