'Here resteth in assured hope to rise in Christ Sir Giles Alington of Horseheath Knight accompanied with Lady Dorothy his wife, daughter of Thomas Earle of Excester Baron Burghley, and who made him a joyful Father to ten children Elizabeth, Thomas, Giles, James, Dorothy, Susan, Anne, Catherine, William and Mary ended this transitory life th 10th of November 1613 to whose dear memory her sorrowful husband mindful of his own mortality erected this monument'.
