Pair of estate cottages, formerly serving as lodge to Medmenham
Abbey. Circa 1900. By Romaine Walker for Mr. Robert Hudson. Lower
storey of dressed chalk blocks, part whitewashed, with ovolo-moulded
chalk mullion windows; upper storey roughcast and whitewashed with
wooden bressumer and wood mullion windows. Plain tile roof, ornamental
wooden bargeboards with remains of twisted wooden finials, brick
chimneys with 'V' pilasters and off-set heads. Picturesque L-plan
building of 1½ storeys. Asymmetrical W. front of 2½ bays has gable
to left of centre with upper storey jettied on brackets. Irregular
leaded casements to ground floor, 5-light canted oriel with leaded
lights in gable. Right bay has board and stud door in moulded and
stopped chalk surround with 4-centred arch and carved spandrels.
Right gable end jettied with oriel window. Jettied rear wing with similar
casements and door, gabled semi-dormer, and C20 conservatory
at right end.
