Pair of semi-detached estate cottages. Circa 1900. Probahly by
Romaine Walker for Mr. Robert Hudson of Danesfield. Lower storey
of red brick in English bond with dentil string arched over doors,
and battered buttresses flanking front; upper storey rendered and
colourwashed, half-hipped plain tile roof; central brick chimney with
off-set cap. One storey and attic, 2 bays. Ground floor has 4-light
barred wooden casements with leaded top-lights, chamfered and off-set
brick sills, and stop-chamfered wooden lintels. Attic has 3-light
barred wooden casements in gabled dormers with richly carved and cusped
bargeboards. Board doors to left and right, with moulded brick
surrounds and semi-circular brick arches over painted terracotta
tympana of local Medmenham ware. Tympana illustrate the labours of the
months May and June, No.5 showing yoked horses harrowing, No.6 showing
the corn harvest. Doors retain original brass handles and numbers.
