House. C15, extended in C17, C19 and C20. Timber framed, plastered, roofed
with handmade red clay tiles. 2-bay hall aligned N-S, with late C16 axial
chimney stack in S bay and storeyed parlour/solar bay to N, with external
chimney stack beyond. C17 extension of one bay to S with external chimney stack
beyond. Aspect W. Small C18/19 extension to rear of main stack, with end
stack. Extension to S in painted brick, enclosing end stack and extending to
E, c.1920. One storey with attics. All the windows in the left half are C20
wooden casements, all the windows in the right half are C19 cast iron casements,
installed in C20. Glazed porch with tiled gabled roof, door to side, C20.
The interior has jowled posts and heavy studding. The original floor in the
N bay is complete, of lodged plain joists with framed stair trap, blocked.
Inserted floor in the N bay of the hall, the axial and transverse beams and
joists all chamfered with step stops, c.1560. The E hall window retains 1½
diamond mullions. Complete unglazed window with 3 diamond mullions in E wall
of solar bay. The central tiebeam of the hall retains one deep arched brace.
Chamfered crownpost with axial bracing, original rafters and collars all heavily
smoke-blackened. Some indication of former timber framed chimney in position
of present main stack.
