II
Colne Road is wrongly shown on the O.S. map as Parsonage Hill. House. C16 and
C17, altered in C18. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with handmade red clay
tiles. 5 bays facing E with axial chimney stack one bay from right end, and
truncated chimney stack, originally external, enclosed in right end. C18/19
extension to rear of left end, and flat-roofed single-storey extensions to each
side of it. 2 storeys. 4-window range of sashes, all C18 double-hung, of 16
lights with some crown glass, except right ground-floor window, which is single-
hung, early C19, of 15 lights. Half-glazed door with flattened columns to each
side, early C19. Left end of roof hipped. The right ground-floor room has
plain joists of horizontal section, jointed to the bridging beam with soffit
tenons with diminished haunches, and jowls are visible in the rear wall of this
bay. Elsewhere, chamfered or plain beams, joists plastered to the soffits. The
front wall has been raised approx. 1 metre in the C18, leaving the rear wall and
tiebeams unaltered. Upper rooms fully plastered. Formerly called Normandies.
