A late C16 timber-framed and plastered house with an C18 front, altered later. The front is now faced with pebble dash in panels. Two storeys. Four window range, double-hung sashes with glazing bars, in flush cased frames. The ground storey has a C20 shop. There is an original weatherboarded outbuilding at the rear, now connected to the house by later additions. Roof tiled, with a wood modillioned eaves cornice. RCHM (38).
Nos 31, 33, 37, 39 form a group with No 40 on the east side.
