Waldorf Astor was interested in the home farm serving Clivden.
He returned from a visit to the States to develop a "Model" farm.
This cow housing, built in 1925 , based on plans produced
by American Company Loudon and unique in the UK
It consisted of a central open space under a high clerestory roof
and with individual feeding troughs around the four sides.
Feed was delivered from a monorail system, hanging containers
pushed around the periphery walkway.. The cowshed was
used to house the cattle indoors through the winter.
A monorail feed container can be seen in the photo being pushed
towards the milking parlour
