House. Early C16, early C17 and late C17. Timber-framed with red brick infill on
sandstone plinth, and red brick. Plain-tiled roof with ridge stack of red brick.
Late C17 main range flanked by earlier cross-wings. Main range of 3 storeys.
Ground and first floors each have 2 late C20 wood casements with small panes and
there is a similar single casement at third storey. The south-west cross-wing,
early C16, is 2 storeys. Gable end window has flush frame with small panes. Late
C20 plank door in moulded wood architrave. Exposed framing with cambered tie
beams, upward bracing, jowled heads to the posts and a crown-post, unmoulded,
with a double peg to the tie beam and to the collar. The north-east cross-wing,
early C17, is of 2 storeys. Framing of 3 panels to the height of each wall.
Queen struts to collars. One late C20 wood casement at first and ground floors.
At the rear of the south-west cross-wing is an extension of late C17.
Timber-framed and red brick. One bay. Interior: Early C16 cross-wing has arch
braced tie beams, double pegging to the studs and remains of original door
lintel. Late C17 main range has Inglenook hearth partly of sandstone. Original
roof with stop-chamfered tie beams and braces. The north-east cross-wing in 2
bays. Arch braced tie beams and Queen-strut roof trusses. The extension to the
south-west cross-wing has open hearth with bread-oven and wrought-iron pot hook.
