Pair of houses in planned terrace. Mid C19. Stucco; asbestos
slate mansard roof with 4 attic windows over moulded parapet
cornice; stuccoed end stacks with moulded cornices.
Double-depth plan.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys plus attic over basement; symmetrical
4-window front with C20 windows in original openings. Stucco
detail includes: tetrastyle Tuscan porch with moulded
entablature, the cornice surmounted by a latticed balustrade
repeated over the flanking slightly-projecting tripartite
windows with linking cornice string; eared 1st-floor
architraves with moulded cornice hoods; 2nd-floor has sill
string with round sill brackets and eared architraves. Pair of
segmental-arched doorways with panelled doors.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached forecourt walls and railings.
Included as part of an important planned group of terraces and
villas by Foulston and his pupil Wightwick on the Hoe, a
scheme which placed Plymouth in the forefront of town planning
in the early/mid C19.
