The Plough Inn
GV II
Inn. Second half C16/early C17, much rebuilt and refronted
late C18/early C19, with later alterations. Painted brick in
Flemish bond with vestigial timber-framing. Plain tile roof
with brick dentilled eaves; brick stacks, external to ends and
one to ridge between right-hand bays.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 3 at rear. 4-window range with various
rear wings, one at right-angles to main range.First floor:
flush 6/6 horned sashes with painted channelled voussoirs,
keystones and sills; between left-hand windows, inn sign hung
from decorative wrought-iron fitting.
Ground floor: 2 canted bay-windows with steeply-pitched leaded
roofs and C20, mostly fixed, glazing flank doorcase with deep
leaded hood and 2-leaf 3-panel doors; remodelled
carriage-entrance to right with heavy-scantling timber lintel
and exposed joists, now blocked in and having C20 steps, door
and windows; painted plinth. Straight joint on left of door
indicates alteration work. Right return: on left of stack is
square-panel timber-framing with brick nogging.
Rear: further surviving timber-framing.
