House, part formerly a smithy. Probably C16, much altered and
refronted early C19, with later alterations. Timber-framing,
with some surviving wattle and daub infill; alterations,
additions and refronting of painted brick. Plain tile roof of
staggered height with brick dentilled eaves and central stack.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and cellar. 3-window range, on 1st floor
having 4-pane metal casements; on ground floor a wide 3/3 sash
under brick segmental arch and a C20 multi-pane bay-window
replacing a former vehicle entrance. To left, a
segmental-arched doorcase with simple moulded hood and
enriched 6-panel door, and to right a segmental-arched
carriage-entrance with double plank doors and wrought-iron
smithy sign above. Painted stone plinth. Timber-framing in
side wall and to rear wing, which has mullioned windows with
some leaded quarries and crown glass.
INTERIOR: central fireplace with wooden lintel and internal
chimney breast above; chamfered-spine beams; exposed
square-panel timber-framing in both side walls; studded
internal division; and some surviving wattle and daub.
