south-east of Sunbeam

Butter well set in to boundary wall to road. Probably C19. Rubble and dressed
stone. Deep square recess into bank flanked by drystone retaining wall which
continues c. 12 m to left to return gateway to Ledstone Farm, and c. 4 m to
right to change in wall structure from horizontal to vertical bedding. An
opening c. 800 mm wide and 1.6 m high run back square to depth of c. 2.25 m,
into bank and over spring water source which flows continuously through square
trough formed in flat stone slabs with one bridging slab towards back; front
slab set vertically, has saddle-shaped recess. Opening is roofed with flat
stone slabs. An outlet, to left, gives to an overflow which is roofed by a
series of flat slabs against the drystone wall. The whole set under grassed
surface, unusually well preserved.
