House. Probably C18 with alterations and additions of c.1913. Roughcast stone
with slate roof. South facade of 5 bays, the 5th bay projecting under gable.
Ist 2 bays have dripcourse, 3rd and 4th bays have lean-to timber verandah.
Windows are sashed with single glazing bars and horns, window between those to
1st and 2nd bays probably originally entrance. 3rd and 4th bays of ground floor
have French windows. 5th bay has 2-storey canted bay window. Gable-end stack
and 2 cross-axial stacks. Rear has 2 wings with lean-to outshuts. West facade
has door with window under dripstone, and entrance with gabled porch. The home
of Beatrix Potter after her marriage to William Heelis in 1913. property of the
National Trust.
